Summer in the Villaggio - Sardinia
Date: 24/08 to 07/09
Introduction: "Villaggio Carovana" is a social cooperative aimed to organize holidays without mental or architectural barriers. It owns a country house in which hospitality I given to people with physical or mental disadvantages, and who want to have some holidays. Guests are accommodate in rooms without any barrier, thought to permit everyone to have comfort, while morning activities as eating or relaxing are done in community in the common areas of the house. The cooperative offers also an accompany service to people to go on the beach.
Type of Work: Volunteers will support the cooperative personnel in their daily activities such as welcoming the guests and giving help to the non-self sufficient ones. More specifically some examples of the activities could be accompanying guest to the beach, give nightly assistance, organize and give entertainment for guests, especially for children... Further, they will be occupied in the ordinary activities needed for maintaining the well being of the house such as cleaning, cooking or taking care of the garden.
Study Theme: The study part will concern the initial training about volunteers activities during the camp and will also focus on social inclusion issues promoted both by the SCI and "Villaggio Carovana" cooperative.
Accommodation: Volunteers will be hosted in the house "Villaggio Carovana" depending on the availability of beds, if necessary, the volunteers could sleep in the room with disabled people or in shared spaces or in a tent. The house is located in the countryside in an isolated place therefore (unless you have a car or using village’s bikes) is difficult to move from the house during free time.
Language: A minimal knowledge of Italian language is needed, in order to facilitate the relation with the guest on the community.
Qualifications: The work is hard and requires: a lot of available energies, strong motivation, experience, adaptability and initiative, maturity and well balanced. Volunteers will be available in the various shifts in the morning and in the afternoon along with cooperative’s members. There will be a day of rest a week. a motivation letter will be needed. It is also favourable to be open to community living.
Location: in Castiadas near Cagliari, in the south-east of Sardinia, about a 6 km far from the sea and 4 km far from the nearest residential area.. The house is located in the countryside, surrounded by trees, flowers and vegetables gardens. Castiadas could be reach using the bus from Cagliari.
Notes: Motivation letter in Italian is needed.
Participation fee: 100 euro
